IP67 Waterproof Junction Box Installation for a Roadside CCTV Camera

A roadside CCTV monitoring point required a weather-resistant connection enclosure for the camera’s power and communication wiring. The camera was installed on an outdoor pole beside an open traffic lane, where the cable connections were continuously exposed to changing weather and roadside conditions.

To keep the electrical terminations protected and accessible, the installer added a BOWO Electric AG Series IP67 waterproof junction box beside the camera pole. The enclosure provided a dedicated service point between the underground cable route and the surveillance equipment mounted above.

The surveillance camera was mounted high on the roadside pole, but the power and communication cables approached the installation from ground level. Placing all cable joints inside the narrow pole body would have left limited working space around the terminals and made future inspection more difficult.

The roadside location also created several practical risks. Rainwater could reach the pole during storms, while road-cleaning water and passing vehicles could produce splash close to the base. Dust, exhaust residue and seasonal humidity could also accumulate around unprotected cable joints.

The installer therefore separated the wiring connections from the camera bracket and pole interior. An external enclosure allowed the cable terminations to be arranged at an accessible height without changing the camera position during maintenance.

This was especially useful for the connection between the incoming field cables and the outgoing lines leading to the camera. Technicians could inspect the power and communication circuits from one service point instead of opening the pole or removing camera-mounting components.

A BOWO AG Series waterproof junction box was selected for the installation. The enclosure is manufactured from ABS and uses a screw-fixed cover to maintain consistent compression around the cover seal.

The AG Series is rated to IP67 and IK08, with a published operating temperature range of −40°C to +80°C. Multiple box dimensions are available, allowing the enclosure to be matched to the actual terminal layout, cable diameters and mounting space.

For this application, the internal space allowed the installer to arrange the camera power and communication connections without forcing the cables into tight bends. The terminals remained visible and reachable after the cover was removed, leaving enough room for inspection and retightening.

The enclosure was mounted vertically on a stable support beside the camera pole. Its position kept the box above the lowest splash area while remaining accessible to maintenance personnel working from ground level.

The cables entered through the bottom of the enclosure. Waterproof cable glands were installed around the cable jackets to seal the entry points and provide strain relief. This orientation also reduced direct exposure of the openings to rainfall compared with top-facing cable entries.

Inside the box, the power and communication lines were routed separately where space permitted. The conductors were secured at the terminals, and the cable bends were kept away from the cover seal and mounting points.

The completed installation created a clearly defined connection point between the roadside cable route and the CCTV camera.

The electrical terminations were no longer crowded inside the narrow camera pole. Technicians could reach the connections by opening the external enclosure, without disturbing the camera angle, mounting bracket or equipment installed higher on the pole.

The vertical mounting position, sealed cover and bottom cable entries provided a more suitable arrangement for an exposed roadside environment. The enclosure helped shield the wiring from rain, humidity, road dust and cleaning splash while keeping the terminals organized for future service work.

The installation also left a clearer route for cable replacement. When a camera, communication line or power cable needs inspection, the service work can begin at the junction box instead of requiring immediate access to the camera assembly.

For roadside camera projects, enclosure selection should be based on the number of cables, cable outside diameters, terminal quantity, mounting position and required internal space. Leaving sufficient room around the terminals makes the installation easier to inspect and maintain.
